Mighty

June ’23

On the last day of our trip to Vegas, Sherry called to say one of Mighty’s eyes looked goopy and weird. Since we were flying out the next day we couldn’t do much about it but wait until we got there. We figured Mouse had probably scratched her in one of their little squabbles. When we got home her eye looked pretty gross, so we took her to the emergency vet, where they thought it might be a tooth abscess pushing on her eye from below. Then we took her to East Padden Vet, who did an x-ray to figure out how to treat the abscess, and instead found a tumor. Mighty was feeling pretty poorly by then, and so we had to let her go. She had made it to the ripe old age of 17.

When we got our sister kitties in 2006 they didn’t look like twins, but the older they got, the harder they got to tell apart. Also, they snuggled and played together for the first few years, then decided they hated each other, and after that it seemed like every time they ran into each other the fur was flying. We bought them to keep each other company and so they would have a playmate, since they were supposed to be indoor kitties, but that didn’t last long.

I thought I was a kitty person, but all of our cats have loved Dave best.

They grew up to be very pretty kitties!

Mighty had a tendency towards ‘resting bitch face’, but she never really meant it.

Well, most of the time at least.

Both kitties grew up with dogs and so they loved the dogs. Here’s Mighty exploring Baby Barclay’s playpen, wondering what sort of creature this is!

The last few years she really got into using her paws for attention, which was so cute!

They had a great time growing up on the farm, and then spent the second half of their lives in suburbia at The Rancho. Things were a little more relaxed here.

Mighty was a very good kitty. Except for the part about hating her sister, life would have been a lot easier without that! And she definitely had opinions about things! But mostly she liked to be petted and cuddled, and be in the center of whatever was going on. We will miss her.

Mighty always looks so dignified. Lets see if we can take care of that.

By catching her in mid-yawn…

Or in the middle of a good shake!

Well, she can’t help it if she’s naturally beautiful.

The Airstream

We have a 1968 Airstream Caravel – that’s a 17ft trailer – which I restored myself over the last 5 years, with help from my friends in the Airstream community. It is my pride and joy, and we don’t get to use it as much as I’d like. All this winter weather is giving me cabin fever – I want to hook up and hit the road! So instead I went out and did some cleaning up, fixed a bad light switch, and just hung out inside with the dog for a bit, letting him get used to it while I read a magazine. He went camping with us a couple times last season, but he has a bit of separation anxiety, so I want him to learn it’s a safe place to be when we’re gone.

Since it’s only 17 ft long, the tour is short. There’s a kitchen down one side…

And a couch that folds out into a bed on the other (in Airstream-speak, that’s called a ‘gaucho’). The bathroom is in the back, and it’s full-service 🙂 That’s a requirement for me when we’re ‘camping’.

And there’s a dinette in the front which folds down into a bed as well, but we use the side bed. It’s actually nice and cozy inside, and never seems cramped. It’s small size is easy to tow and fits into any camping spot. We are forced to keep everything neat and orderly when travelling because there is no room for clutter inside.

Mighty followed me into the trailer, and then I left to play with the dog, and when I came back and opened the door she had a lot to say to me about forgetting her and leaving her locked in there all alone for TEN WHOLE MINUTES!!! Apparently it was quite traumatic. She may require therapy…

Mouse

I went out this morning and after doing the morning chores I took nice headshots of all the animals so I could print them out along with their information to give to the rescue lady. Today is moving day for them. More on that later though.

Mouse was helping, and I snapped this nice picture of her in the morning light. She just about glows!

Mouse is having her 15 minutes of fame on Petduel.com where she is the worlds cutest pet for January 2009 thanks to a picture a friend submitted. Click through to see her in all her laid-back glory 🙂

Where’s that cat?

While I was outside geting the chickens settled in, and wearing Barclay out for the evening, I kept hearing a meow – meow – meow. But where was she? I was looking all around, but couldn’t see her. Meow – meow – meow…

How the heck did she get up THERE!!? I’m sure she could have figured out how to get back down, but she kept looking like she was going to jump from places that were still pretty high up, so I finally grabbed a ladder and helped her down. Silly cat!
