This year we did not get the trailer out as much as we wanted to. It’s nice having it safe at home between trips, at least. It hasn’t really needed any work lately, so it just waits patiently for it’s next adventure. First trip of the year didn’t happen until June! With an Oregon Unit […]
I had a really fun year exploring art. I loved art as a kid, but it is not something I could really pursue with my chaotic upbringing. So it has been really nice to have room to get back to it. With my art/music room setup, I finally have space to spread out and do […]
I’ll start by saying we did not get the trailer out nearly as much as we wanted to this year. Things like the kitchen remodel ate up a few precious weekends. It just seemed like a lot of this and that kept us from venturing out much. But we got it out three times. First […]
When we bought our house ten or so years ago, everything in it worked, and there was really no reason to go messing around with stuff that was perfectly functional. Over the years we have replaced the stove, and the fridge, and the dishwasher. The one thing that remained was the cheap, ugly, brown countertop. […]
Ok, back to the Offroad Miata I mentioned back on the Camaro post. So I’ve built the suspension of the Jeep Wrangler, and the interior/body of the Miata, and they actually look like they are going to fit together ok. No engine, but I cut out a headlight cover for a little ‘winky’ action. Now, […]

They do consider views when evaluating the value of your property. Don’t they do that in NM? Ah, don’t get me started about property taxes.

No, no taxes on views here. It must be because just about every house has some kind of mountain, mesa or gorgeous sky view. It would be too tough to get something like that approved. It wouldn’t make any sense.>>It was weird when we bought this house because it hadn’t been reassesed since the owners bought it.>So, they were paying about $600.00 a year for propety tax, but when we bought it, they finally got around to reasessing and the property tax jumped up $1,000 a year. So, now we pay $1,600 a year. ack!>>Thankfully, we paid cash for this house from our previous house’s sale and from some settlement money. So, I suppose I shouldn’t complain that we only pay $1,600 a year to live here. But still, property taxes, especially when you live so rural with only roads as a service, just seem kind of unfair.>>What are property taxes like there?>>~Lisa

I’m jealous, I wish our house was paid for! When we built our shop the tax lady came out and walked around the property and took pictures and looked our shop over inside and out, re-evaluating everything. They do account for view when they evaluate the value of your house, because not everyone has a view – lots of trees around here. Not like our view of the hills north of town is that spectacular. But they do seem to take it all into account. I was annoyed enough that they came and eyeballed our new shop in deciding how much to increase our taxes. Just knowing the size, and the info on the permits was not enough. They wanted to know how nice it was in person, in case they could squeeze a few more dollars out of us. That’s the main reason we didn’t insulate it at the time. Didn’t want to get charged extra for it being ‘finished’. Taxes – ugh! I don’t think getting taxed more for improving your home is fair at all, but you know what Dad used to say -‘life ain’t fair, get used to it’!
